A rich, silky, old-fashioned chocolate pie with a smooth custard filling and flaky crust — just like Grandma used to make.


🛒 Ingredients

For the Pie Filling:

  • 1 pre-baked 9-inch pie crust

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ¼ cup cornstarch

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 3 cups whole milk

  • 3 large egg yolks, beaten

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping (Optional but Recommended):

  • Whipped cream or meringue

  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Step 1: Prepare the Dry Mixture

In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until fully combined.

Step 2: Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.

Step 3: Cook the Filling

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble (about 8–10 minutes).
