Best Salmon Patties

(Crispy, Tender, Flavor-Packed — Detailed Step-by-Step)

These salmon patties are golden, crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal, sandwiches, or appetizers.


🛒 Ingredients (Makes 6–8 patties)

  • 1 can (14–15 oz) salmon (or 1 lb cooked fresh salmon, flaked)

  • 1 small onion, finely diced

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crispiness)

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or Greek yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • 2–3 tablespoons olive oil or butter (for frying)

Optional:

  • Chopped parsley or dill for freshness

  • Hot sauce or Old Bay for kick


🔪 Step 1: Prep the Salmon

  1. Drain canned salmon and remove bones if desired (they’re soft and edible).

  2. Flake salmon with a fork.

  3. If using fresh cooked salmon, flake it and let it cool slightly.

In a large bowl, combine:

  • Salmon

  • Onion and garlic

  • Egg

  • Mayonnaise or Greek yogurt

  • Breadcrumbs

  • Mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper

Mix gently — do not overmix, or patties become dense.

  1. Scoop about ½ cup of mixture per patty.

  2. Shape into rounds, about ¾–1 inch thick.

  3. Press lightly to help hold shape.

Optional: chill 15–20 minutes for firmer patties.

  1. Heat oil or butter in skillet over medium heat.

  2. Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.

  3. Flip carefully with spatula.
