Classic Mexican Shrimp Cocktail
This is the most traditional, refreshing street-style version.
Ingredients:
1 lb cooked shrimp (peeled, deveined, chopped or whole)
1 cup ketchup
½ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup orange juice (optional but common in Mexico)
½–1 cup Clamato (or tomato juice)
½ small white onion, finely chopped
1–2 tomatoes, diced
1 cucumber, peeled & diced
1 jalapeño or serrano, finely chopped
¼ cup cilantro, chopped
Salt & pepper to taste
Hot sauce (Valentina or Tapatío) to taste
Diced avocado (optional)
Instructions:
Mix ketchup, lime juice, orange juice, and Clamato in a large bowl.
Stir in onion, tomato, cucumber, chile, and cilantro.
Add shrimp and toss gently.
Season with salt, pepper, and hot sauce.
Chill for at least 30 minutes.
Serve in a glass with avocado on top and saltine crackers or tostadas.
